Bristol-based chipmaker Graphcore has unveiled its latest Intelligent Processing Unit (IPU), claiming it is the first silicon architecture capable of matching the speed and efficiency of human neural connections for specific deep-learning tasks.
The 'Bow IPU' uses a revolutionary 3D wafer-on-wafer technology to achieve 40% higher performance and 16% better power efficiency than its predecessors. It is designed to power the next generation of 'Massive AI' models.
"This is a breakthrough for the entire global AI industry, born right here in Bristol," said the Graphcore CEO.
