'CarbonLock', a startup originating from the University of Cambridge, has raised £40 million in Series A funding to deploy its innovative soil-based carbon sequestration technology at scale across the UK and Europe.
The company's technology uses a proprietary microbial cocktail that accelerates the natural ability of soil to capture and store atmospheric carbon. Early trials have shown a 30% increase in soil carbon levels within a single growing season.
"We are turning farmland into a massive carbon sink," said the CarbonLock CEO. "This isn't just about offsets; it's about restoring the health of our planet's most vital resource."
The funding round was led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures and includes several major agricultural cooperatives as strategic partners.
